I posted this at the end of yesterday's post, and I thought maybe it could provoke some response, some emotional and some more rational, on a Larkin trade.

It makes me think of the "unthinkable" , such as this article:
https://lastwordonsports....-larkin-trade-looks-like/

A Larkin trade could greatly help a rebuild if the right pieces come back and of course the right picks are made and developed. There are still a lot of "ifs" here. But fan favorites are traded in EVERY successful rebuild.

Stevie traded some very good players to change the dynamics and get younger in Tampa. He is under no pressure to trade Larkin, and would most likely get an good over-payment for him.

1 day and a wake-up. Pretty good rehash of the Wing’s off-season moves. Lots to ponder.

After all’s said & done, 3 names stick out: Suter, Ned, Seider. Those 3 will be solid upgrades in the line up.

Suter’s a very promising kid. He’s got good vision, pin-point passing, maturity. And a chip on his shoulder. I was surprised that the Hawks let him go. He’ll make the 2d line dangerous, taking some of the d-pressure off the 1st line. Expect, if everyone’s healthy, that 1st line to finally show what it can do.

Ned’s not going to replicate his ‘Canes numbers, the defense in HockeyTown is a far sight from what he had in Carolina. So this season will show what he’s made of. However, if the d tightens the screws a bit (and Oesterle replaces DK…), things could be interesting. Leddy/Mo Sides is going to be a pair to watch.

Mo’s not going to burn down the house. But he will be good. I’d say it’ll take him a month or so to acclimate to the NHL. When he hits his stride, he’s going to be good. Very good.

I agree with Art; Tanguay was an absolutely brilliant grab. He’ll bring a fresh vision & work ethic to the rink. Say what you want about the Avs, but they were a stacked team. And Tanguay was a key player for them. I’d expect his tenacity to be reflected on the ice this year. Not a SCPO-bound team, but some folks are gonna be pissed they underestimated the Wings.

Still concerned about Raymond, Bergy & Jared Mac. Pearson looked ok, Tyutyayev really looked good. Some decent signs that GR will look good this season, but the kids have to be healthy after the beating that took place last week. Want to see how/if Veleno recovers, and see what work he did to improve his game in the off-season. Looked good in Game 1, but everything after that game needs to be discussed with my therapist.

Looking forward to camp, your impressions, the insights of your readers. Another lackluster year, but what areas will improve? Our D got better last season. What improves this season??

And NO TRADE of Larkin. If anyone, Bert. But what do I know……

A Larkin trade is not something I would advocate....but everyone at this juncture can be moved for a price. Hell, they traded Gretzky!
I really think Bert is someone that will get more trade speculation as we approach the TDL. He is a good guy to have in the play-offs, gritty and skillful!

I tend to agree. A couple GMs reported after the last trade deadline that Yzerman listed 3 players as being “untouchable” right now. Seider, Raymond and Larkin. We’re just starting to see Raymond’s upside and it’s impressive. Seider has a ton of hype, and I’m blown away (I may buy his bobblehead if it comes out). Larkin, Yzerman put him under a microscope for a year before giving him the “C”. You need a leader. I’m not saying it would never happen, but as of last spring those were the names (apparently CBJ was one of the teams talking to the Wings before Mantha was dealt to Wash).

You guys are amazing. Thanks for tuning in. I am really excited about the defense just because it’s almost a brand new squad. Ned in net as well. I’m hoping Raymond heals up and can skate through all of camp and preseason. If he, Veleno and Berggren all go to GR, it will be a fun line to follow. Callups will happen. This is a huge opportunity for all the young guns

My guess is Yzerman asked for Werenski. Still killed that Mantha deal, if he could pull off a robbery like that for Larkin then yeah, I think it would be in the cards. You can say Larkin will be past his prime, isn't a true 1C, etc. At some point though you need veteran leaders with work ethic and want to be in Detroit. Yzerman would have gave Luke or DDK the C if he thought there was a chance to move Larkin, he must have really liked what he saw.

Yzerman is walking a line of a total tear down, keeping trust of the current players, and trying to get players to want to be there. Big advantage he has is that there is something about playing in Detroit that a lot of other rebuilding teams don't have.

True. However, how nice was it to see Z, Kronwall, The Captain, et. al, spend their entire careers in one place? For me, this shows an undying dedication to the team. Would be ok with him staying here forever!!! Now, that being said, I don't advocate un-due contracts; the Holland-esque style of Gm-ing. If he starts sliding, or the "business" gets in the way...I'd throw up in my mouth a little bit, BUT........

I wish we could see all of the deals that never came to fruition. I bet there'd be some real barn-burners. Hockey is a business, but there needs to be some loyalty (within reason, not Abbey for $5m x4 loyalty....) and leadership. Always found it refreshing that a player would remain with the same club for their careers. It's very rare to see that now. It's a business, I know.

I see those 3 (may increase in numbers/names this season...) as corner-stones for a maturing club. You need to have those guys that just exemplify the lore/history, ethos of a club. They hold true the traditions of the club, they're the face, they're leaders, they hold others accountable, they take responsibility when things go wrong and praise others when things go right. It's a hard call, though.

I asked the same question when I watched the 1st Prospects stream. He's a prospect, think his name is David or Davis. Nick-name is "T-Bone". Decent little skater, seemed to have quick feet. Think he played in Saginaw. Little guy, BIG heart. I like him, not that it means anything.....gritty little bugger.
